The Meriton proposal is uniquely unsuitable for the Little Bay Cove site and has no strategic merit. In its rezoning application, Meriton works with inaccurate and misleading facts and figures which we lay open and scrutinise.
The approved Masterplan for Little Bay Cove allows for medium-density development with an additional 224 dwellings, mainly duplex/townhouses, in line with the local government's Housing Strategy. 50% of a total of 450 approved dwellings have been built, and planning certainty for those who bought into the Masterplan requires that the current planning controls are protected and enforced without any changes.
Little Bay's local character is shaped by its unique coastal environment, rich recreational opportunities and a low- to medium density built environment with building heights of up to 18m. Meriton's proposed high-rise development with proposed residential towers of up to 60m high is blatantly out of place.
